Top 10 Claims for New Foods and Beverages

The Chicago Tribune posted a Top 10 list of most frequently used claims for new foods and beverages launched in 2008, according to Mintel's Global New Products Database are listed below.

* 1. Kosher
* 2. All Natural
* 3. No additives or preservatives
* 4. Organic
* 5. Microwaveable
* 6. No trans fat
* 7. Low-fat/ fat-free
* 8. Premium
* 9. Allergy-related
* 10. Calorie (low/ no/ reduced)

So, what didn't make the list? I noticed that low sodium didn't get make it, and reduced fat and calorie related claims are still hanging in there. Organic & natural food releases were big in 2008 - although I think with the recession, organic foods might have a harder time this year because of the high prices.
